Originally crafted by Ferdinand von Hochstetter in 1859, the map was later published in Europe by Justus Perthes, a German firm known for its geographic expertise. Showcasing the Isthmus of Auckland and its extinct volcanoes, the map offers a unique glimpse into Aotearoa's geography as it was perceived for European audiences.
